Reports indicated back in February that the search engine giant Google is gearing up to open its very own retail sites till the end of this year, so it could enable consumers to test its Chrome and Nexus devices as well as its experimental products such as Google Glass. The latest report from The Economic Times has claimed that Google is well on its way to open new “Android Nation” retail sites in India in order to boost its exposure in the country.

“The US company will partner BK Modi’s Spice Global to set up the stores in various Indian cities, starting with New Delhi later this year. Like other such stores in Indonesia, each Android Nation store will promote and sell Android smartphones and tablets across multiple brands like Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG and Asus, to name a few. The first Indian store will open in New Delhi’s Select Citywalk, a person with direct knowledge of the situation informed ET. Google has been scouting for a 1,200-1,500 sq ft location for this store.”

The aforementioned report has clearly indicated that this would not be the first time that Google is opening an Android Nation store, as already two such retail sites are operating in Jakarta, Indonesia. However, Google has opened these two Android Nation stores in Jakarta in association with a local electronics retailer known as Erafone.

But Indonesia and India would not be the only countries where Google is looking to open Android Nation stores, as the Mountain View-based company also plans to open its retail stores in other parts of the world including the Africam continent, Malaysia, Thailand and the Middle East in partnership with Spice Global to display Android and Chrome-based tablets and smartphones of various brands like Samsung, Sony, LG, HTC and Asus.

Currently Google has 900 Spice Hotspots and the company is looking to convert them into Android Nation stores in order to speed up its expansion. This suggests that Google is looking to expand its network of stores more aggressively than ever before. In addition, the multinational corporation is now focusing on Asian, African and Middle Eastern countries, aside from European and other western countries.

However, till this day the report has not received any official confirmation therefore nothing can be said with surety about the extension of Google retail store sites, but one cannot completely discard it as The Economic Times is a reputable media outlet.
