According to CNET, hours after popular social media site Facebook updated the newly acquired Instagram app for both Android and iOS platforms with a video feature, a huge number of admirers have uploaded thousands of video clips. The report divulged that within 24 hours more than 5 million videos have been added through the latest video feature of Instagram. This was indeed a remarkable achievement by Facebook, as initially the social media site was criticised over the new feature by a number of users. However, shortly after that, 130 million users successfully defended its decision of introducing the video feature that allows them to make 3 to 15 second long clips. Moreover, along with the video trait, Instagram has also introduced a new set of features through which users can filter their video clips.
However, Instagram was not able to instantly lure users after it had launched the video feature. In fact, users started to access instagram video feature a few hours later when the NBA Finals kicked off. After which Facebook made it known that users had uploaded about 40 hours of videos during each minute of the NBA Finals between Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs was taking place. “At peak, Instagram users uploaded 40 hours of video per minute. The climactic moment came Thursday night as the Miami Heat defeated the San Antonio Spurs during the NBA Finals, the spokesperson said.”
This was indeed a jaw dropping number, which depicts that users were eagerly looking forward to the new feature of Instagram. Now the photo and video sharing social network has directly become a competitor of Twitter’s Vine service that also allow users to upload videos. When Facebook launched the video feature the social site also declared on the occasion that to further promote the service it will sign deals with an artist in order to develop 13 new custom filters. In addition to this, some leading experts are already integrating “mind blowing” cinematic video stabilization features in the application, which is hard to find in other apps.
But this does not mean that Instagram will now only focus on video clips, as Facebook has made it clear that, “We’re still committed to making sure you have control over all of your content. Only the people who you let see your photos will be able to see your videos. And as with photos, you own your videos. You can learn more about Video on Instagram—including our new Cinema feature—by visiting the Instagram Help Center.”
