Earlier this week, TQ reported that RIM’s CEO Thorsten Heins confirmed that their upcoming lineup of BB10 powered devices would be based on two different types of phone; a large touchscreen smartphone (Dev Alpha) as well as a QWERTY/touch combo akin to the current BlackBerry Bold devices. Both styles of phone will feature replaceable batteries, much to the delight of heavy smartphone users.

According to the Wall Street Journal and Crackberry, Heins indicated that RIM will soon be taking two beta devices to various carriers for a preview of both the platform and hardware. According to Heins, the phones and operating system are nearly complete and ready to show what they are capable of. Before impressing end users and consumers, BlackBerry must win over the carriers of those devices; the Rogers, Bells and AT&Ts of the world.

The report also goes on the state that it has been independently confirmed that RIM has also been inviting its own employees to take part in testing the devices and providing valuable feedback. More information regarding the phones and platform will begin to come to trickle out as the carrier previews take place and 2013 release dates approaches.

From what we have heard however, BB10 is a big improvement over anything RIM currently has in the market and hopefully represents enough to compete with Android and iOS 6.
