Microsoft launched Windows Phone 8 alongside Windows 8 and initially the software giant worked really hard on Windows 8 in order to get rid of any bugs. Meanwhile Windows Phone 8 was enjoying only hardware updates instead of firmware. In spite of this, Windows 8 was not able to achieve good sales numbers but Windows Phone 8 on the other hand was warmly received by consumers and it also managed to boost the sales of various smartphone lines. Until now dedicated users of Windows Phone have not given up on the OS in spite of several quirks. In fact, Windows Phone users are upset with Microsoft, as despite of registering several complaints regarding the OS, they still have not received a positive response.

Microsoft recently launched the GDR2 update for its Windows Phone OS in order to bring FM radio back to smartphones along with some major enhancements. Still it was not enough and a number of complaints regarding the OS kept on increasing. UserVoice’s statement that, “We need Microsoft to listen to our ideas and DO something,” received 631 comments and 4,629 votes. The message was quite simple: “GDR2 is just a small update, I see no actual features with high demand from customer on this update. Things need to changed, OR, we’ll leave this OS. Do something, Microsoft, before it’s too late.”

So to deal with this challenge the current corporate vice president and manager for Windows Phone Program Management, Joe Belfiore has stepped up and responded that:

“We’re definitely here and paying attention to what you folks are asking for… keep in mind the trick for us is balancing things that make EXISTING devices better for you, our enthusiast users, versus things that create new devices to sell to a broader audience. A lot of the work in GDR2 was around enabling new devices– like the Lumia 1020, devices on Sprint, etc. so that we could keep growing the size of the WP ecosystem. We need to grow the number of people using WP so we get ISVs writing the apps, we get better/more accessories built, etc.

Of course this takes time and energy, but we still do intend to improve the user experience for you via new features. There’s some in GDR 2 (eg. DataSense broadly available, FM Radio) there’s more coming later this year, and still more after that.

Don’t worry – we are listening to you folks!”

The above given message finally revealed that more Windows Phone updates are coming, but it seems quite odd that a big tech company like Microsoft is finding it hard to maintain the balance on a project, which is their future.
