It’s been quite some time now since BlackBerry announced its mid-tier smartphone the Q5. Canadians have been waiting for the Waterloo-based company to make the device available for sale in the country for quite soem time and finally the Canadian smartphone maker announced that BlackBerry Q5 will hit store shelves in Canada on August 13th. After this announcement it is expected that a lot of Canadians will turn up at various stores to buy the third BlackBerry 10 device that is less costly than the Z10 and Q10. However, low price does not mean that BlackBerry made compromises on the specs and quality of the Q5. Despite being a mid-range smartphone it sports some excellent features.
The BlackBerry Q5 boasts a 3.1-inch touch screen, a 5-megapixel rear camera that possess HD video recording facility, a dual-core processor, LTE connectivity and more importantly according to BlackBerry, a “stunning youthful design.” It is anticipated that most of the wireless carriers in the country will make the mid-level BlackBerry Q5 available at their outlets along with many other retailers, which includes Bell, Koodo, TELUS, Fido, Sasktel and Virgin Mobile as well as Best Buy, Walmart, Target and Future Shop. However, the red edition of BlackBerry Q5 will be exclusively available to Virgin Mobile customers only and the list of carriers does not include the name of one of the biggest wireless company of Canada, Rogers.
Managing Director of BlackBerry for Canada, Andrew MacLeod said on this occasion that, “Canada is our home, and bringing the BlackBerry Q5 smartphone here is a testament to our strong partner support and ongoing commitment to delivering innovative technologies that enable Canadian enterprises and consumers to improve how they connect and communicate.”
The BlackBerry Q5 can also be called an inexpensive version of the Q10 that also has a physical QWERTY keyboard and touch screen. But BlackBerry has introduced Q5 for consumers which can afford a mid-range smartphone with decent features such as 2GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storing capacity, 2-megapixel front facing camera for video conferencing and a 2,180 mAh battery to keep it alive for a long time.
With these fine features BlackBerry Q5 is likely to see a decent demand when it will be launched in Canada. Especially, considering the fact that Canadians have a great love for home grown products, as previous BB10 devices also sold like hot cakes when made available for sale.
