Educating students at school level is not an easy task, as teachers not only have to transfer their knowledge to children, but they also have to keep them engaged so they can learn and excel after passing out of the school. However, the increased use of technology has raised another issue for schools. Now educational institutes also have to introduce their students to technology. To deal with this situation Los Angeles Unified School District has found a timely solution and will be buying iPads for 640,000 students and distribute among them without any charges.

The Los Angeles Unified School District will make this purchase under the $30 million program announced by none other than Apple itself that will give them 31,000 iPads initially. Since it is just the first phase of the program therefore more purchasing of iPads is expected in the coming days.

The chief facilities executive for the LAUSD, Mark Hovatter said that, “The most important thing is to try to prepare the kids for the technology they are going to face when they are going to graduate. This is phase one, a mix of high school, middle school, and elementary students. We’re targeting kids who most likely don’t have their own computers or laptops or iPads. Their only exposure to computers now is going to be in their schools.”

With this program Apple has proved that education lies in its DNA and it had made a big effort to enable students to receive tablet education.

According to Hovatter, “The project came about because educators realized that workers today in every field, including construction and automotive education, require skills with computers and related technologies. We are making sure that everyone is able to take a test electronically. Even in construction, you can’t do those jobs now without having some familiarity with computers. Whatever jobs kids want to have, technology is likely involved. You’re just not going to be able to do well in society if you don’t have some experience.”

Talking about the program with CITEWORLD, Hovatter said that it was not an easy decision to opt for the iPad in order to educate students. However, according to iPhoneinCanada, “the verdict came after analyzing 12 proposals coming from Apple, Samsung, and others, from multiple perspectives from security to the device’s ruggedness and more. Finally, the 30-person committee of the Los Angeles Unified School District have decided to go with the iPad.”

He also said that, “We were not just buying a device, but also a device with software” aimed at the students and their needs.”
