KGI analyst Mingchi Kuo is known for making good predictions regarding future products from technology firms. Therefore, whenever Kuo comes out with a prediction, the tech industry pays great attention to his research note, as he maintains a good track record of results. Previously Kuo has made several predications regarding the forthcoming inexpensive edition of iPhone and the iPhone 5S, but now the KGI analyst has released forecasts for the newly released Nexus 7 tablet from Google and the upcoming flagship smartphone from Motorola Mobility, Moto X Phone. According to Kuo’s latest prediction, Moto X Phone will do considerably well, while the new Nexus 7 tablet will do worse than before.

“According to our survey, 2013F shipments of Moto X, to be announced August 1, should reach 5.5mn units, up 57% from the previous forecast of 3.5mn units, including 1.5mn units in 3Q13 and 4.0mn units in 4Q13.”

Citing supply chain sources, Kuo made it known that the encouraging response from the U.S. operators as well as mega spend (half a billion dollars) planning by Google on the marketing of the Moto X Phone will prove quite successful to increase its number of sales.

However, as far as the new Nexus 7 is concerned, Kuo said that, “Following our survey of the tablet industry, we estimate shipments of second-generation Nexus 7, co-developed by Google (US) and Asustek (2357 TT, NT$275, N), will be only 3.5-4.0mn units in 2013, some 30-40% lower than market consensus of 5.0-7.0mn units.”

Mentioning the factors behind the poor show of Nexus 7 Kuo said that competition in the tablet market has increased a lot and it is because of this very reason even Apple’s iPads are suffering. Moreover, the slightly higher price of the brand new tablet is also going to hurt its number of sales, as the search engine giant has only modestly updated the specs of Nexus 7.

In addition to this, Kuo also thinks that the inexpensive range from Asusteck, maker of Nexus 7, is also going to deeply hurt the sales of the new slate, as the manufacturer is more aggressive in selling its low cost slates.
