Google is not afraid of giving away its head mounted device Glass to various people and recently the Mountain View-based company lend three sets of the device to each of the five selected film schools under its Glass Creative Collective program. However, Google has given out Glass to these film schools only for the fall semester.
“We’re really interested to find out how Glass will contribute to the craft of storytelling, specifically through film. So, we reached out to various film schools, including The American Film Institute, California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), UCLA School of Theater, Film, and Television and University of Southern California. They’ll start exploring how Glass can be used in production, documentary filmmaking, character development and things we haven’t yet considered …”
According to the latest report from Variety, under Glass Creative Collective program each of the schools had to come up with proposals “considering how a first-person POV, hands-free communication, and the potential for new narratives will change the way we capture and tell stories through Glass.”
Talking with The Hollywood Reporter dean of USC School of Cinematic Arts, Elizabeth Daley, said that the key to success in this program is to give the viewers an immersive experience.
“We got Google Glass just before the opening of the new Interactive Media Building on June 12. That’s when George Lucas and Steven Spielberg and Don Mattrick, the president of Microsoft’s interactive entertainment business, told us about how not all entertainment, but certainly some entertainment, is going to become more immersive. And Glass is quite wonderful because you get that immersive experience without elaborate headsets.”
However, in spite of carrying out various Glass-based activities, Google still has not announced the launch date of the head mounted device. But numerous reports suggests that the device is not too far away from making its debut, as it expected to launch some time during the end of this year. Therefore, due to these reports now excitement can be felt in the air, in fact it is increasing with every passing day.
The major reason behind this excitement is the wonderful features of the Google Glass, as the Mountain View-based has already revealed some of its amazing features. Besides this Google has also put various developers on the work to develop apps for the HMD, so they could give an unbelievable or unforgettable experience to the users, when the Glass will be officially released for general public sale.
