According to the latest report from 9to5Mac, Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has acquired the services of former Senior Vice President of Levi Strauss, Enrique Atienza, who also used to take care of Retail America and Global Store Operations of the company. The maker of the iPhone is hiring Atienzo for its top director post of U.S. Retail market. The news surfaced after the LinkedIn profile of Atienza showed that for the last two months he is at Apple Retail. The sources of 9to5Mac also revealed that Atienza has been nominated as the head of all retail matters for most of the regions in the West Coast of the United States, but his role at Apple will officially begin sometime in October.

Here is what 9to5Mac has reported bout the hiring of Atienza:

“A source says that Atienza will be the director of all retail matters for many regions within the West Coast of the United States, and this role is one of the highest ranking retail positions inside of Apple. Several internal and external candidates were considered for the position, but the external Atienza is said to have been the best fit. While Atienza has already signed on with Apple, he is yet to actually begin his management role. He will officially start in October.

Even as an outsider, Atienza seems to have the mindset of a Tim Cook hire. The retail executive led a transition for Levi’s to streamline its global sales approach to be more consistent and organized.”

In addition to this, the sources also indicated that Steve Cano, who was earlier appointed as the Vice President of Apple’s Retails Operations, will now report directly to CEO Tim Cook, while Atienza on the other hand will report to Cano. This suggests that Apple perhaps may also appoint an outsider for its Head of retail post, as currently the position is vacant since the former holder of the office John Browett was fired from the company.

At this point in time it cannot be said to what extent 9to5Mac’s report is true, but it indicates one thing that Cook and his team are paying lot of attention to their retail section, as they know that achieving excellent sales is the only way to remain at the top. Perhaps that is why Apple is not shying to hire talented people from outside the company, so it could boost the sales of its future and current products in the global market.
