When it comes to shooting videos with smartphones, Optical Image Stabilization is a must-have feature. The reason behind having the OIS feature in smartphone camera is that it gives the feeling as if the video was shot by using a tripod, which makes the filming quite stable. So in the absence of this feature the videos end up being bouncy. Finnish mobile maker Nokia was the first to introduce the OIS feature in its Lumia 928 handset earlier in May, when it showed how it keeps the video shots steady. However, after Nokia several other smartphone makers like HTC and LG has also offered the OIS feature in their latest flagship handsets. It was expected that Samsung would also offer OIS in Galaxy Note III, but according to the latest reports from South Korea the vendors of the company are facing a tough time in getting 10 million modules for each unit of the next-gen phablet that will give it the new feature.
As a result of this problem now it appears that Samsung has decided to get rid of the OIS feature from the Galaxy Note III rear camera. But since latest LG G2 and HTC One smartphones are offering OIS so some people are suggesting that Samsung should reconsider its decision of taking out the feature from the entire build, as it can badly affect the sales of Galaxy Note III. Nevertheless, at this point in time it cannot be said how credible these reports are, as so far Samsung has not confirmed any of them, so do not consider them more than grain of salt.
Another reason behind considering the report as grain because usually it takes manufacturers long time to get key parts from vendors, so it would be too early to call the information legitimate or invalid. Apart from this the same sources have also claimed that Samsung has also developed a 16-megapixel camera that may see the first light as early as in March. The rumour has it that this 16-megapixel camera may land on the back of Samsung Galaxy S5 and it is also likely to support the OIS feature.
The Galaxy Note II remained quite successful for Samsung, as it has managed to generate excellent sales not only because of its first-rate specs, but also for functions like air-gesture and more. So now Samsung fans have lot of expectations from the third generation of the phablet and OIS is one of them.
