According to the latest report from Bloomberg, the shares of Japan’s largest telecom carrier NTT DoCoMo have been moving in an upward direction since the rumour has broke that company will offer the iPhone to its customers this year. On the other hand, the share price of NTT DoCoMo’s rival carries Softbank and KDDI ar sliding down, although both carries are currently carrying iPhone.
“[DoCoMo]Chief Financial Officer Kazuto Tsubouchi said there are compelling reasons for Apple and his company to reach an agreement, according to an interview published in SankeiBiz. For Apple, it doesn’t make business sense not to allow Japan’s largest wireless carrier to sell the iPhone, while DoCoMo wants to be able to sell most popular handsets,” Sankei said.

This was not the first time that rumours regarding DoCoMo carrying Apple’s iPhone are swirling in the tech world, as they have been whirling around for several years now. Back in November 2011, Apple was having talks with telecom carriers in Asia, but in the mid of the month these negotiations came to a standstill. The reason behind this halt was that Apple wants the carriers to commit that they will carry iPhone in large volume.
Moreover, “NTT DoCoMo wanted to control what software goes on users’ iPhones, a concession Apple was unwilling to make,” according to 9to5Mac. Japan is not the only Asian country in which Apple is having talks with carriers, as it is also having discussion with China’s leading carrier, China Mobile. If Apple’s effort bears fruit and both DoCoMo and China Mobile agrees to carry the iPhone then, the company will see significant improvement in its smartphone’s sales in Asia.
