Rogers and TELUS are not the only wireless carriers in Canada that are swiftly extending their 4G LTE network in different parts of the country and SaskTel is not far behind. Recently the carrier made it known that it has launched its 4G LTE network in Estevan. As a result of this development, SaskTel has now added a new city to its 4G LTE network community. Moreover, the introduction of this new network from SaskTel, will enable the local residents of Estevan to see approximately five times faster data speeds as compared to the current 4G network.

Prior to Estevan, Swift Current was the last city which received LTE network access along with Weyburn, Prince Albert, Moose Jaw, North Battleford and Yorkton earlier during this summer. Currently SaskTel is offering per month plan for just $65, which comprises of data, text and talk time. On this occasion SaskTel issued a press release which stated that:

“SaskTel is working hard to connect Saskatchewan to the world,” said Don McMorris, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “Saskatchewan residents are technically savvy and they are demanding lighting speed so they can quickly and reliably use their wireless devices to communicate for both business and personal use. 4G LTE gives SaskTel customers access to the best mobile Internet experience in the province.”

“Our LTE network has twice the coverage and is up to 33 per cent faster than any other LTE network in Saskatchewan”, said Ron Styles, President and CEO of SaskTel, “And we are the first company in Canada to offer LTE roaming across Canada.”

SaskTel already offers the most advanced wireless technology to the largest number of communities in Saskatchewan, and it plans to continue to expand across the province throughout the year. 4G LTE was also expanded to Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Prince Albert, Yorkton, Swift Current and North Battleford over the summer.

The existing 4G wireless technology reaches download speeds of up to 21 megabits per second (Mbps).  The new 4G LTE technology offers download speeds of over 100 Mbps and 50 Mbps upload.  4G LTE phones are compatible with both networks – when outside 4G LTE coverage areas, the devices will always fall back to the 4G network.  SaskTel is making existing wireless data plans available to 4G LTE customers without charging a premium.”

Although, in contrast to the 4G coverage of SaskTel the LTE coverage of the carrier is quite limited, but it is expected to grow swiftly in the future.
