We had shared with you some time ago (TQ was on it) that Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment Ltd. had teamed with NASA to create the incredibly popular Angry Birds Space game which featured micro-gravity and other space elements into game play.

The two parties have gotten together once again, this time introducing the Curiosity rover into the fray. With the latest update, fans of Space can play up to 20 new levels, all taking place on Mars with a cameo from the rover.

The reason the Space Agency is behind the project has to do with Rovio and the bird games’ immense following, a market that NASA feels can benefit from entertaining game play as well as knowledge about the rover and the Mars mission as a whole.

According to Forbes, NASA executive David Weaver had the following to share, “Rovio is teaching huge new audiences about NASA’s missions to Mars thanks to this collaboration. It’s a great way to introduce both kids and adults to the wonders of the planet in a fun and entertaining way.”

The new levels feature links to NASA web content relating to the exploration of the Red Planet and NASA missions, providing an easy way for anyone to learn as they play.

According to Engadget, the rover-themed episode will not be the end of the Rovio-NASA collaboration. The two will be working together to create a full scale Red Planet variant of their game come fall. For now, feast your eyes on the video below.
