Friday, August 9th proved to be a big day for Air Canada when the company announced that they would be extending their services from Montreal to San Fransisco throughout the year instead of being seasonal. Montreal tech members, Startups and specific venture capital firms will be glad to see this change; a breath of fresh air perhaps.

TechVibes reports that, “Air Canada is solidifying its position as the only airline offering non-stop service between Montreal and California, with up to five flights per day,” said Air Canada’s Marcel Forget. “Both our San Francisco and Los Angeles flights have been scheduled to enable easy connections to Air Canada’s extensive domestic and international network via Montreal.”

This decision came in after increasing demands from customers and this decision will be taken into affect from November of this year. Daily flights will be scheduled from Montreal to San Fransisco and vice versa. The former flight scheduled at 5:35 p.m and the latter being scheduled at 8:10 a.m. The company explained how this decision came after increasing requests from business community and leisure community to extend the current services.

TechVibes adds that, “Montreal-Trudeau Airport served more than 6.2 million of the airline’s customers in 2012 and operates more than 100,000 of Air Canada’s flights every year to 67 destinations.”

Many have taken this decision as a big improvement on behalf of the company to movie things forward. One of these is Greg Isenberg. He is CEO and angel investor and is really happy how things are being handled over at Air Canada. Isenberg says to TechVibes that :it’s an easy decision to choose Air Canada over a lower-priced competitor like US Airway’s full-day Air Wisconson flight. Unlike the latter, Air Canada’s service to San Francisco takes about five hours and comes with its signature in-flight entertainment for a “relaxing experience.”

In an interview with Techvibes,Isenberg stated that the only problem for startups is the price,. “My issue with Air Canada is it’s so expensive if you book within two weeks of the flight,Especially for early tech entrepreneurs it’s almost inaccessible. It’s great for VCs, it’s great for angel investors or successful founders, but I don’t think it solves the problem for the people who need it the most.”

Furthermore Air Canada also announced that all the flights will be scheduled on the state of the art Airbus A319. Customers will also have the facility of the flight being timed in such a way to facilitate passengers travelling from Montreal and Trudeau airport.
