An incredibly forward thinking start-up based out of Montreal, Wajam has gained some serious recognition. The social search engine, which integrates information from your social networks to aid in filtering searches and discovering information, has won three International Business Awards. Popularly known as ‘Stevies’, the awards were given to Wajam include best online press room (gold), best social app (silver) and most innovative North American company (silver).

Currently released in Private beta, the company was founded in 2009 and launched in 2011, the browser extension functions to provide an additional layer for enhancement of their regular search experience. Social content can be filtered based on platform (Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc.), search item (pictures, videos, news, reviews) and even individual users. The latter is impressive given that every major enterprise and media source has social media presence, making Wajam and your network a seriously powerful search tool. The extension also factors in your friend’s reviews on popular websites and review services like TripAdvisor, YouTube, and Wikipedia.

Another element of Wajam search is the ability to integrate location based recommendations. According to the good people at AllThingsD, Wajam has fashioned a workaround into Apple’s iOS platform. The integration is deep as Google Maps and Safari feature social network information. That type of integration goes deeper than an App would. iPhone users can visit Wajam’s site and follow the instructions of they so choose.

Congratulations to CEO Martin-Luc Archambault theWajam team on the incredible things they are doing. Being able to integrate such an expanse of useful information into the browsing and search is to be applauded.
