Governments Still Believe in RIM and BB7 as Their Platform

Although very few sentences put into type over the past few months that have included the acronym RIM have been gloom and doom free, the following piece promises to be so. In the past month, the U.S. Department of Defence (DOD) awarded the new BlackBerry 7 platform a high seal of approval, and has been working to create specific departmental apps for the related devices.

In similar news, the UK government has also granted the Waterloo-based company a similar vote of confidence, electing to use their new platform and devices throughout their various departments. The two cases are a testament to the fact that regardless of investor and public perception of where RIM is headed, they provide far and away the most secure mobile platform available.

The news was announced by the UK’s Communications-Electronics Security Group (CESG), who state that BlackBerry will be the only platform relied upon for all protected and classified material up to and including files classified as “Restricted”. Among the wide range of departments that will use BB7 and the associated devices as the Ministry of Defence (MoD), most of the Central Government as well as the majority of the UK’s police forces and emergency services.

As mentioned at the beginning of the piece, it’s refreshing to hear news of RIM excelling in what they do best, providing a secure and effective platform for businesses and services.
