As with everything that Apple does the Campus 2 project was all about secrecy. The public got to see only what the California based maker of the popular iPhone wanted them to see. However, a report from 9to5Mac claims that they have the actual images of what the interior of the main spaceship shaped building will look like.
The pictures reveal that the interior of the mothership campus will be very open and have high ceilings. There will be extensive use of large curved glass for lighting and overall the design will be very minimalistic. From the images the interior resembles some of the high profile Apple Stores.
The proposal of Campus 2 in 2006 by the late Steve Jobs and was his last public appearance before he passed away. The venue has generated a lot of interest after documents filed with the City of Cupertino showedd that Apple was focusing on ease of use and security. The fact that the research facilities on the campus are completely separated from the main building indicates that Apple was very serious about protecting its products and designs.
The enormous main building with its white interiors is part of Apple’s expansion plan in Cupertino and was bought from Hewlett-Packard and others for $300 million. The location was selected due to the firm’s early roots in the area and the property totals 175 acres of land. Most of the campus will be green areas and only 20 percent of the developed campus will have buildings.
The project was originally expected to get started in 2010 but was delayed and many expect the construction to start by the end of 2012. The campus should be ready for use after 3 to 4 years from the start date.
