Nokia showcased it latest smartphone, the Lumia 920, on September 5 and European telecom insiders have told Reuters that the device will be on sale by November. The launch of the Windows Mobile powered device may be the Finnish company’s last chance to break into the lucrative smartphone sector. Previous models released by Nokia have received a luke warm response from buyers and competitors like Apple’s iPhone and the Android powered Galaxy series by Samsung have left the manufacturer in the dust.

The Lumia 920 did not get a positive response from critics who thought the new smartphone looked too much like it predecessors and did not have characteristics to make it a big seller. The analysts were also left scratching their heads by Nokia’s silence on when the Lumia 820 models would hit shelfs. The manufacturer was also mum on other details including a price tag and which and mobile operator would be partnering with the Nokia.

The Reuters piece stated that operators had leaked that the Lumia 920 would be priced similar to the competing Samsung Galaxy SIII at 580 Euros. Nokia is hoping to grab buyers during the Christmas shopping season but will be facing some very aggressive competition. Apple’s popular iPhone is expected to get a much anticipated upgrade with the iPhone 5 and will be on sale in October. It will have a one month head start of other competitors like Nokia and many predict the device to be hit for Apple. Some of Nokia thunder has also been stolen by Samsung when they released a phone that was run using Microsoft’s much talked about Windows Phone 8. The Lumia 920 is also powered by Windows 8 and some analysts believe the novelty of the new operating system may not be enough to boost sales when other competitors like Motorola and HTC are also releasing phones at the same time.

Nokia has experienced a terrible battle in the smartphone sector and in the last 18 months the firm has experienced 3 billion Euros in operating losses. The Finnish company has had to cut 10,000 jobs and offload assets to make sure that they stay competitive. The upcoming months don’t look too bright either and analysts predict that Nokia will post a 700 million euro loss for the third quarter of 2012.
