Canadian start ups have been raising a lot of venture funding in the last few months and the tech sector is heating up with many companies making changes to their business to become more competitive in the increasingly tough marketplace. Shopcaster has just changed its name and will be selling all over Canada through its online portal. The ecommerce site is a place for shoppers to purchase from local retailers and brands without having to drive out to the actual brick and mortar location.

The site was formerly known as Shopcastr and is now offering $5 shipping to any location in Canada as part of their promotion for their updated services. Shopcaster is on a mission to bring the quality and uniqueness of local Canadian boutiques to any buyer in the country and the recent upgrades are meant to refocus the company and its larger ambitions. The ecommerce portal sells clothes, household products, sportswear and outdoor gear.

Matt O’Leary, the co-founder of Shopcaster spoke to TechVibes about all the changes and the expansion of service and said, “We’re thrilled to announce the launch of Canada-wide ecommerce. We’ve got a new site design, new logo and are getting ready to bring new retailers onboard from new cities across Canada and the United States.” Co-Founder Judy Sims explained further the upgrades to the site, “There’s nothing quite like the experience of shopping at local independent boutiques. What’s special about Shopcaster is that it brings that experience online. You can browse by category or neighbourhood and each shop has its own page that shopkeepers can customize to reflect their unique personalities.”

Shopcaster got its start in November 2011 when it was launched in beta. Since then the company has had a good start and sales have increased while the firm has been able to secure $1 million in venture capital so far.
