Whether you call Toronto home or just happen to be visiting this week, the city has been a little more awesome the past two days. Smartphone based taxi and limo service Uber is providing unlimited free rides around the city until 11:59 tonight as part of a promotion to reward current users and attract future ones in the nation’s largest city.
The three day program, dubbed ‘Free Taxi Week’ has a few stipulations (no trips to Niagara Falls), however overall the terms are extremely reasonable. Free rides are limited to $20 a trip although there are no limits to the number of individual trips one can take. The promotion is available to anyone interested in trying the growing company’s service.
Uber offers black sedan and SUV private limo service as well as a new service being advertised as part of this deal. The innovative start-up has partnered with individual taxi drivers around the city who have been equipped with iPhones and training. The app works by locating an individual through their smartphone and sending the nearest driver based on the same information from their device. Payment is made from the app itself, providing convenience and comfort at fair price.
Taxi rides use metered fares as the benchmark and add a 20% premium for Uber’s service. The driver’s tip is included in the premium making it an opportunity for solid earnings potential.
We strongly encourage you to download the app (iOS and Android) and try the service out tomorrow if you have to get around the city. You’ll be hard pressed to beat the price.
