The world has gone ga-ga for e-readers and manufacturers can’t seem to produce them quickly enough. Amazon has come out as a contender in the tablet market thanks to its hot Kindle device including the popular and widely acclaimed Kindle Paperwhite. Barnes & Noble is also in the fray with its well reviewed Nook GlowLight. Canadian e-book company Kobo has also seen success with its own e-reader and has recently announced that its brand new Glo and Mini devices are ready for sales and customers can purchase them at various retail locations. U.S. based customers will not be able to get their hands on Kobo’s readers just yet and the new tablets are only available in Canada and the UK.
The announcement about the Kobo Glo and Kobo Mini e-readers was expected since September of this year and the company delivered on its promise on October 5. However, the U.S. will need to wait because the company has not yet announced any dates for release of the new devices south of the border.
The Kobo Glo is expected to compete directly against the Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite and Barnes & Noble’s Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. With the competion in mind, the designers of the device made the e-reader with a 6-inch display that has an e-ink XGA screen with a Pearl e-ink front-lit display. The Glo is priced at a competitive $130. A smaller device called the Kobo Mini, which measures 4 inches by 5.2 inches will also be released. The pocket sized mobile device is the official product for those who will store their e-readers in hoodie pockets and is priced at an affordable $80.
