Today top companies around the globe are not only facing several business challenges, they also have to compete with one another to distinguish themselves as the most valuable brand around. This list of most valuable brand is prepared from the stats taken from social media, Twitter and news media sources combined as collected by General Sentiment. The first 20 companies in this General Sentiment list and report (PDF) are:

To the surprise of many, social network website Facebook sits at the top of the totem pole, vaulting over stalwarts like Google and Apple. Many may question how Facebook has managed to pull such a thing off, as both Google and Apple possess more capital and assets than this social network website along with stronger histories. Moreover, Facebook stood at number 60 in a fresh brand report of 100 companies that was carried out by Interbrand not too long ago while share prices have also performed in a less than stellar manner.

The answer for this valid question is that bad reports like poor stock performance and even warranted anger from users does not necessarily have negative repercussions for the brands on this list, as the more mentions and attention the company generated overall, whether negative or positive made it increasingly popular.

As far as Apple and Google’s case is concerned almost similar thing happened. As with the release of iPhone 5 Apple came under tremendous criticism from their users and many analysts because of their poor map application. Many people had suggested that Apple should have stuck with Google maps, however relying on the latter as geo-location becomes increasingly important would not have necessarily been their best bet. Regardless Facebook catapulted ahead of the two aforementioned firms due to the fact that so many people spend significant parts of their day on the social network and discussing it.
