Startup Canada will be launching its next major initiative called the Canadian Mentorship Challenge at Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) which will take place from November 12 to 18. The force behind the recently concluded Start-up Canada National Tour will be teaming up with CATAAlliance and the Canadian Youth Business Foundation (CYBF) in a bid to get 10,000 Canadian entrepreneurs mentors to guide them in reaching their goals.

Co-Founder of Startup Canada, Victoria Lennox, talked about the importance of the program and what it can give to the country and said, “We’ve heard from entrepreneurs of all ages, startup stages and business sectors from coast to coast – mentorship is an essential ingredient for building a more collaborative and sustainable entrepreneurial nation. We’re issuing this challenge to the nation’s entrepreneur and enterprise support communities in the hopes it will spark long-term mentorship programs at local levels. Mentorship’s transfer of knowledge and ideas is valuable for everyone involved and contributes to the success of future startups.”

Tessa Mintz, Vice President of Volunteers and Programs with CTBF believes that mentorship can make a huge difference in an entrepreneur’s life. Mintz went on to say, “Mentors provide tangible, experienced based business advice, support and encouragement to help entrepreneurs through the realities of starting and sustaining a business. We invite all interested and inspired challenge participants to become CYBF mentors and to continue their support of Canada’s entrepreneurs.”

Dr. Cindy Gordon, who is the co-founder of SalesChoice spoke about how mentorship was a useful tool for entrepreneurs of all ages. The former National Chair of CATA Women in Technology and the National Chair of Invest CrowdFund Canada, also saw benefits for women and Canadian’s overall. She said that, “Programs like the Canadian Mentorship Challenge can help us make Canada stronger as a nation. For example, women play a major role in developing a stronger Canadian innovation economy. CATA is a strong advocate for supporting women entrepreneurs and I see this Challenge as an opportunity to reach and inspire more women to act on their ideas and launch startups of their own.”
