Twitter is a leading social networking website that has users in all four corners of the globe. The majority of these users joined the innovative micro-blogging platform in order to follow their favourite stars and celebrities, idols, politicians and other personalities along with their friends and relatives. Due to this unique attribute, Twitter has been able to gather millions of users with high levels of engagment with more users emerging with each passing day.

Considering its popularity, Beelove, a social media marketing company has concluded a thorough analysis of 36 million Twitter accounts to learn more about the service’s users. As a result of this grueling analysis, Beevolve came to know some interesting facts about this micro blogging website, One of which is that Canada makes up 3 percent of the total Twitter users, which at first blush seems like a relatively small number. The fact is however that if you transform this small percentage into numbers it accounts for 34 million users overall.  In spite of  this, Canada stands at number five when it comes to overall global use. As expected, the U.S. sits at first spot with 51 percent of overall users with the U.K. coming in second with 17 percent. Third position belongs to Australia with Brazil surprisingly fitting in at number four.

Nevertheless, the gap between Australia and Canada is not too big, as the margin between them issimply 1 percent. Therefore, Canada can easily top this gap in the near future, as they have more of a population than Australia. Furthermore, this analysis by Beelovle revealed that females in Canada use Twitter more than men, with males accounting for 49 percent, while women account for about 51 percent of accounts. Apart from this, women send more tweets than men overall, as their average count is 610 tweets in comparison to men’s 567  annually. Women are also more likely to use a purple background, whereas the majority of guys like to set a grey background.

In the same way, iPhone users access Twitter more than Android users do, due in large part to the fact that Apple’s iOS has more than double the market share of mobile Twitter accounts as compared to the Google operating system.  Also, Twitter users are more likely to be young, with the 15-25 year demographic representing 74 percent of overall users thanks to various teen celebrities like Justin Bieber, who has about 29 million followers on this website.

On the other hand, Beelvolve also determined through their detailed study that a normal user has near about 208 followers and they have an average to follow 102 people. 12 per cent of overall accounts are protected and average 47 followers each. 6 percent of accounts have no followers and 10 percent are following no one at all, therefore leaving analysts to conclude that they are either fake accounts of have been abandoned.

All in all, the analysis did not show the exact numbers of existent Twitter accounts. The expected figure is around 600 million, but since the number of active users’ accounts is unknown, that total is nothing more than an educated guess.
