Given that there is plenty of time left until the launch of Research In Motion’s Blackberry 10, the company is doing a lot of things to save its sinking boat besides developing a new OS and apps for its upcoming devices.
Following this same strategy, Research In Motion (RIM) commissioned an analytics company to conduct research work in order to determine why the cost for both consumers and companies increased when they shifted from Blackberry to Android or iPhone devices. One reason for conducting this search was also to overcome the claims made by various IT directors, who stated that the iPhone is as safe to use as the Blackberry. Such statements have done little to help RIM reclaim market share.
Moreover, due to these statements, U.S. Immigration Agencies and Customs organizations in the States switched their Blackberry contracts to iPhone based ones. However, when But Strategy Analytics, whom RIM had hired to conduct the research, released their report on Monday, the good news helped lift the pressure off of Blackberry to some extent.
“In summary, Strategy Analytics found that the costs of utilizing the BlackBerry solution not only provided the most secure platform, but also the lowest (total cost of ownership) when considering all elements of the network, required device management and the devices themselves.”
Still it’s a long way to go for RIM as Blackberry 10 is expected to be released in the first months of 2013. Until then, the company must continue to make positive strides in order to maintain and grow its contract base. A recent effort in this regard is the special screening of BB10 for some key politicians of Ottawa.
