Obesity is one of the health issues that seems to be increasing with the passage of time not only in adults, but in young kids too. The rising rate of obesity among children is a major cause for concern for many parents because if these children fail to reduce their weight, they will face serious and varied health problems at a relatively young age.

Keeping the anguish of such parents in mind, researchers in Canada have concluded a pioneering study that makes connections between physical activity, sleep and diet among children. According to this latest study, Canadian researchers discovered that if children added one more hour of sleep each night, it would reduce the chances of gaining fat by roughly 30 percent.

According to Paul Veugelers, professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Alberta and one of the authors of paper; “If you want your kids to sleep better and live a healthier lifestyle, get the technology out of the bedroom,”

Veugelers emphasized that children who have one or more electronic devices in their rooms are likely to spend more time playing or watching them. As a result, they do not take part in as many physical activities or sleep as much as children who do not have such devices in their bedrooms.

Veugelers’ study is based on 3,400 children between 9 to 11 years of age who read at the 5th Grade. Out of these 3,400 children, half had, at minimum one electronic device in their room. Such kids were found to be 1.47 times heavier or even obese as compared to the others with no technology in their room. Parents Canada wide should take definitely take note.
