Canadian Startup Vidyard sent out a press release on October 30 stating that the Waterloo based firm had hit another significant milestone with one million plays per day. CEO of the video platform, Michael Litt, talked about the aspirations and the potential for a lot more growth when he said, “One million plays per day is the tip of the iceberg. We’re laying the groundwork to scale much higher. It’s only a matter of time before one million plays per day turns into a million per minute.”
Vidyard also released more good news, announcing that it had successfully recruited veteran FreshBooks Marketing lead Mitch Solway. He will be joining the video hosting and marketing startup as Vice President of Marketing. His departure from FreshBooks took place last July in order to help Vidyard grow its business. His new teammates is positive that Solway will be able to provide the company with a major boost and help replicate his success at FreshBooks where he took a 200,000 client base and grew them to over five million users in 4.5 years. Solway also has nine years of experience in marketing from his time at Lavalife.
Vidyard is looking at expanding its business after a well earned cash injection of $1.6 million. The latest round of money came from investors including Softech VC, Y Combinator, SV Angel, Andreessen Horowitz, iNovia Capital, and some angel investors. The startup was previously included in the Y-Combinator’s Summer 2011 class. During its time at the startup accelerator, the company was shortlisted by GigaOm as one of the five to watch from 63 startups taking part in the program.
