To write a story, novel or book, an author always requires true motivation and inspiration that propels them towards a finished product they can be proud of. In Georgina Campbell’s case, her Blackberry device also became and remained a tool for inspiration. Campbell managed to hammer out 55, 600 words on her RIM QWERTY keyboard on route to completing a 200 page novel on her trusted device.
According to Georgina, who lives in Vauxhall, an intercity area of Central London, writing this novel on her Blackberry was so absorbing that she ‘immersed’ herself into the undertaking. The end result, entitled ‘The Kickdown Girls’ is a narrative that revolves around a batch of young girls, who live in south London.
The passion piece written and stored on her BlackBerry earned Georgina a publishing contract too, an incredible achievement for someone who had started writing the novel based purely on a challenge put forth by her daughter.
Recalling the bet, Georgina shared, ‘Lorra and I were watching this movie Attack The Block and she thought it was brilliant. I thought it was rubbish and said that I thought I could write a better script, so we challenged each other to write something.’
This challenged really moved Georgina, who works as a chef at the U.S. Embassy in London. Says Campbell, ‘I started typing on my Blackberry because it was something I had with me all the time and could easily just take out and start typing anywhere.’
As a result of this attempt, Georgina managed to write the entire novel on the MemoPad app of her Blackberry, which she admitted, ‘I only ever use for making a list of what I need to pick up from the shops.’
