Toddlers and young children mimic what their parents do and with smartphones becoming an invaluable part of many working families’ lives, children want to use these expensive and fragile devices. Similar to playing with car keys, young children want use a working smartphone but the sensitive nature of the device makes it difficult to hand it over to kids.
That’s why a company named Yip Yap is looking to complete development of a phone called the Pipsqueak specifically for kids. The device is extremely durable and is connected to the parent’s smartphone through Bluetooth. The Pipsqueak phone can make phone calls through the parent device and does not require a separate wireless connection. Children can also play music form the device. The phone will give the child a feeling that they are making actual calls and receiving calls.
Pipsqueak’s main selling point is that it will be a very durable device that can withstand the treatment young children will hand out. Unlike more expensive touch screen smartphones, the Yip Yap device can handle being tossed around and getting wet. The developers of the phone have started a Kickstarter page to raise enough money so they can launch their device. The creators state on their Kickstarter page that the best use for the phone is a device for children up to 3 years to use while talking to grandma or telling dad about their day while he is at work.
