Facebook launched its latest service, called Gifts during September of this year, allowing its users to send tangible real world gifts to their friends or family members through Facebook’s wildly popular platform. After the launch of Gifts, Facebook announced that they were to hold an event on November 1 in New York in order to reveal some more facts about this new revenue generating service
However, that date and location fell directly into hurricane Sandy’s path as it hit New York and caused catastrophic disaster (our hearts go out to all those effected by the storm). Unfortunately, as a result of the massive storm, several companies along with Facebook had to put their events on hold.
Now according to the latest report, Facebook has rescheduled its Gifts event for November 15. Surprisingly, the company has opted to again hold the affair in New York, even electing for the same location: FAO Schwarz on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. In spite of the fact that Sandy has caused severe damaged to the buildings, transportation and power stations in and around the area, inconveniecing locals, Facebook is moving forward with their plans.
Hopefully, these problems will be managed by the time Facebook gets ready to hold its Gifts event this time around. Thus far, Facebook has not revealed any information about their upcoming event, but observers believe that the company will inform the press about its valuable retail partnerships for its new service.
Meanwhile, users of Facebook can relish the fact that through the Gifts service they will not only be able to send presents to their loved ones, but will also be able to donate gifts to any of the 11 charities that will be listed by the company or ones that their friends have chosen to endorse themselves. Facebook has been looking to introduce new revenue streams in order for the public company to appease its shareholders. Gifts is likley to be a smashing success for the social networking website.
