Canadian company Wind Mobile, known best for its discounted wireless services has started a consumer program called the Canadian Mobile Bill of Rights. The company which is a relatively new entrant into the Canadian wireless sector has put its initiative online with a Facebook page. The company is calling the document its attempt to create a ‘bill of rights’ that will be developed using feedback from consumers. Regular users are being asked to provide their input on how they think the industry within the country should change for the better.

The timing of the Canadian Mobile Bill of Rights from Wind Mobile is interesting because it comes hot on the heels of a decision by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) to develop a Canadian mobile wireless code of conduct. The government watchdog is looking at developing the code to help protect customer rights and give users a more standardized experience with all the different telecom companies operating in Canada.

A statement from Wind Mobile claims that, “We’re encouraging people to help us make a stand for mobile freedom.” The company is asking people of the social network to ‘Like’ their page and also take part in the poll. The company also suggests people get in touch with the CRTC and voice their opinion. Wind has also posted on their Facebook page that they want CRTC to “eliminate early termination fees, eliminate arbitrary fees, make free call control mandatory, and create clear and simple contracts.” These demands seem to be in line with what a lot of Canadians also want. Early poll results from the Facebook page show that 59% of voters want early termination fees to be completely scrapped from mobile contracts.
