To encourage young developers to continually create innovative and inspiring work of all kinds, numerous events takes place in different parts of the world for said leaders of tomorrow to showcase their wares. Such events remain quite helpful in proving a platform for people with extra ordinary skills, ideas and talent. As a result, such events are greeted quite warmly in almost all continents.

Following a similar notion, organizers of 2012 Maker Faire Africa decided to arrange an event in the most populated city of Nigeria, Lagos in order to bring talented and skilled people to a single location at one time. The effort and hard work of the 2012 Maker Faire Africa’s organizers bore fruit as four teenage girls surprised everyone at the event with their remarkable invention.

These four girls invented a power generator that is driven by urine. Their incredible technology is able to provide people with 6 hours of energy by utilizing a quart of urine, an extraordinary feat that has significant implications in many parts of the world. The generator works when urine goes through an electrolytic cell that separates hydrogen from the remainder. The hydrogen is then pushed into a cylinder that contains liquid borax, where moisture is then removed from the gas. After that gas is forced into the generator the device starts producing electricity instantly.

The names of these four girls are Akindele Abiola, Duro-Aina Adebola, Bello Eniola and Faleke Oluwatoyin. Adebola, Abiola and Oluwatoyin are 14 years old, whereas Eniola is 15 years of age. Astonishing. Powering a generator with urine, a waste product, is in itself is a great deal, but accomplishing something of this magnitude at such a young age is absolutely incredible and should be considered a triumph.  Power shortages are common problems in third world countries, and something like this could make a huge impact in the lives of many.
