9 To 5 Mac reports that unnamed sources have said that Apple’s next Mac operating system, OS X 10.9, will have Siri and Maps integration. This will bring services that were previously only available on iOS devices to desktops and laptops by 2013. 9 To 5 Mac’s reliable sources also added that OS X 10.9 integration of Siri is very similar to the voice command software on iPads powered by iOS 6. All this information is derived from early builds that are currently under testing by Apple.
There is no certainty that Siri will be available for OS X10.9, and may in fact be left out after the early testing phases. However, the newer versions of iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch have Siri integration and this may mean that newer versions of the Mac will get Apple’s popular voice command service as well. The point is also further supported by the fact that current Mac’s already have the required hardware and resources to run program like Dictation and Siri.
The report also states that sources indicate Apple’s mapping service will also be available on upcoming Macs as a framework for developers. If the maps integration does happen then iOS developers should be able to embed maps into applications that they build. If mapping does come to OS X 10.9 for developers, users may get to see a regular map application As part of their Apple native applications.
9 To 5 Mac also reports that work on OS X 10.9 and the already launched OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion started at the same time. Apple was inspired by iOS when making this software and decided to spilt up the features found in iOS between the two versions. OS X 10.8 feature include Notification Center, AirPlay, Dictation, Game Center, Reminders, Notes and iCloud document syncing.
