The well-known Jefferies & Company tech analyst Peter Misek said on Tuesday that he has raised the chances of Research In Motion’s (RIM) latest operating system (OS) success in his recent assessment. However, the percentage of success that Misek has declared in his assessment is still not very convincing, as according to him this new OS of Blackberry 10 from RIM has 20 to 30 percent chance of success.
Nevertheless by making this statement Misek has at least deferred his first assessment in which he had stated that the much awaited BB10 OS had a mere 10 to 20 percent probability of success. This means that latest developments related to BB10 has forced Misek to change his mind, clearly in a positive direction. One of the leading developments in this regard that has really forced Misek to review his assessment was the strong support of carriers for the upcoming system and its smartphones.
As Misek stated in his research note that, “Preliminary results from our quarterly handset survey indicate developed market carriers have a much more positive view of BB10 than we expected. With greater carrier shelf space and marketing support, we now believe BB10 has a 20 per cent to 30 per cent probability of success,” he said.
Having said that the Jefferies & Company’s analyst did not forget to mention that consumer demand will be the “ultimate determinate” for RIM.
This depicts that Misek is still not much convinced that BB10 will do well in the market, as he also looks “bit puzzled” with the positive approach of the carriers towards RIM’s upcoming smartphone because of company’s increasing share price that has boasted to 5 percent from 20 percent and new OS that is coming out after 2 years of delay.
Referring Google and Apple’s OS, Misek said that, “Our theory is that carriers see BB10 as one of their last chances to avoid being locked into a long-term smartphone OS duopoly”.
However after experiencing BB10’s super storm web browser Misek had to said during an interview that it is “potentially superior” to smartphones that are powered by Android, but a “little inferior” to iPhone 5.
It was believed that Microsoft Windows Phone 8 will also give RIM’s new OS a tough time, aside from iOS and Android, but initial reports of freezing and reboot in this operating system suggests that Microsoft still have to work a little harder in order to give BB10’s OS a good run for its money.
Nevertheless, this argument is not enough to convince Misek, as he said that the success of BB10 will be determined only when the sales figures will come in at the start of May 2013.
