The world’s largest Smartphone manufacturer has got a bona fide hit on their hands with their latest and greatest device, the Galaxy S III. According to a recent Reuters poll, the Korean giant is running a lead on the competition in terms of sales volume, most important among them being Apple. Samsung moved an estimated 50 million of their devices in Q2 of this year, thanks in large part to the S III. Apple is expected to sell in the 30.5 million unit range. Not bad, but not Samsung.
Apple’s iPhone 5 speculated release date is in October according to those in the know. If so, we would have to wait until Q4 to see Apple sales spike, leaving plenty of time for Samsung to enjoy their position.
While Apple relies heavily on its latest iPhone model to drive sales figures, Samsung sells a wide range of popular devices within its Smartphone portfolio. Along with the S III, the Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note and the Samsung Focus 2 for Windows all sell well. This has proven to be a beneficial strategy, allowing Samsung to post record quarterly sales figures.
The next move is now Apple’s to make. After the death of Steve Jobs and lackluster iPhone 4S announcement, the iPhone 5 must establish itself as the new industry benchmark for the sake of many vested parties. All that is for certain is that it is great for all parties involved when two heavyweights are pushing innovation in this way.
