Recently Google’s Startup Village in the US, Kansas City gained the fastest wide scale internet connection in the world, with a speed of 1 gigabit per second. At that speed, it would take people in Kansas City 30 seconds to download a high definition two hour feature length film . This internet connectivity made Kansas the first and only city to have this kind of connection.

With the bar now set, India’s Startup Village in Kochi which is also the first telecom incubator in the world’s largest democracy has gained the same status thanks to its newly laid underground fiber cables that provides this village with lightening fast internet speed of 1 gigabit per second.

With this latest connectivity India has became the world’s second country after the US that now has an ultra fast internet connection. This high speed internet connection was achieved through fiber cables specially designed to contain small glass fibers. As a result of this, the internet speed of Kochi’s Startup Village saw a boost of over 1,000 times more than a broadband connection.

On this occasion the Chairman of Kochi’s Startup Village, Sanjay Vijayakumar said that, “We are not behind Silicon Valley. Our youngsters also are privy to the best available connectivity. Startup Village aims to build the elements of a world class tech ecosystem to realize the dream of a Silicon Coast in India. Apart from 100% teledensity and literacy, the submarine landing station at Kochi creates a perfect backdrop to try this ambitious pilot to effectively change the tech start-up policies in India to be at par with Silicon Valley”.

The chairman also shared that the Kochi village was a pilot program and following its success they have plans to spread this program in other Indian cities as well.
