Yesterday morning a lot of confusion was observed as strong rumours were swirling in the IT world that Facebook was in talks with the famous messaging application for smartphones, Whatsapp in order to purchase the company that is currently rated as the second best paid iOS app. This entire commotion began when a tech related website published an article regarding this rumour.
However, when the business head of Whatsapp, Neeraj Arora was contacted to confirm these reports he said, “The article is a rumour and not factually accurate. We have no further information to share at the moment.”
The main raison d’être behind this entire confusion was that in the past both Facebook and search engine giant Google have showed keen interest in purchasing Whatsapp, but so far none of them have been able to materialise this deal. Therefore, when the rumours of negotiations between Facebook and Whatsapp popped up they instantly caught fire.
Facebook was also contacted to make a statement regarding these rumours, but company’s spokesperson clearly said that they do not comment on speculations or rumours.
Nonetheless, despite of this entire confusion one thing is for certain, that Facebook is without a doubt interested in buying Whatsapp because aside from being the second best paid app on iOS devices, this application was serving one billion messages during a day in the previous year, which definitely must have seen a huge growth this year.
Whatsapp is available free of any charge on platforms like Blackberry, Windows Phone and Android based handsets. Europeans and Asians are particularly fond of this free app that is ideal substitute of SMS.
