Google is getting good at giving its fans an users Christmas gifts and this year the search giant made the announcement that Gmail users in Canada and the U.S. can once again make free local voice calls through their Gmail chat widget until the end of 2013. The service should let users call and get in touch with their loved ones over the holiday season for free.

Previously Google had extended the free local call service for its users in Canada and U.S. at the same time in 2010 and 2011.

This extension of free calls from Gmail account came as a surprise for users because Google introduced their voice calling feature in the mail service back in 2010. At the time, the company announced that people will be able to make free calls just for onw year, but this is the third consecutive year that the American technology firm has extended their calling service.

More importantly, Google gave the the feature an extension at a time when the company is looking to close all money-losing or unpopular services.

In its statement Google said that, “Many of you call phones from Gmail to easily connect with friends and family. If you’re in the US and Canada, you’ll continue to be able to make free domestic calls through 2013. Plus, in most countries, you can still call the rest of the world from Gmail at insanely low rates.”
