Before any smartphone can make it on to the market in North America the devices have to go through a rigorous inspection from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). History has shown that when the FCC clears a smartphone for release it inadvertently ends up giving away internal specifications that have not been made public. The FCC has lived up to its reputation and it seems that one of its latest passed devices in the BlackBerry Z10. The smartphone from Canadian technology giant Research In Motion is also known as the L-Series.
The devices has a model number of RFF91LW and the FCC tested and passed the device with the 10.0.9.299 of the OS.
From the details provided it seems like the the RIM smartphone has a LTE-compatible baseband along with frequencies compatible with Canadian wireless carriers Rogers, Bell and Telus like Bands 4 and 17 (700/AWS). The recently passed smartphone has support for Band 2 and 5 WCDMA (850/1900). There also might be a 3G-based AWS version for providers like T-Mobile, Wind and Mobilicity.
RIM does not expect to release the devices until January 30th so users and fans will just have to wait until then to see exactly what the Canadian firm has developed for their comeback. The technology company has been in troubled waters thanks to competition from Apple, Google and Samsung and has been dealing with severe financial problems. The BlackBerry 10 platform and related devices are the company last ditch effort to become relevant in the smartphone sector or risk complete failure.
