Instagram wants to make the New Years celebrations extra special for their users and has created a desktop-optimized New Year’s Eve photo stream. The feature will document the count down to the new years by putting all the images of their users in one place on the photo-sharing social network.
The photo-stream was detailed in a blog post on the company site that stated, “We love seeing photos shared from all different parts of the world. At instagram.com/nye, you can see photos from every part of the world as the clock strikes midnight in a given time zone.”

The time zones will group together all countries that are going to be celebrating the arrival of 2013 at the same time. This means that the residents of London, Dakar, Casablanca, and Lisbon will be ringing in the New Years together and getting their images posted in the same time zone section on Instagram. There is a nifty toggle button available to allow users to jump from one time zone to the other.
Instagram is primarily a mobile app that serves as a social network for people sharing their images so you would expect the mobile version of the new year photo stream to be good. However, it seems that the desktop browser version is the most comprehensive because a viewer can see multiple images on one page and they can choose the timezone through a toggle. The mobile version lacks this interactivity and shows one image at a time that gets refreshed every couple of seconds. This may be because Instagram is looking to go from just being a mobile app to one that runs on several platforms.
