The world’s largest social network is once again making changes to its site and this time the profile page is getting a facelift. The new look for Facebook was first reported by Jon Russell of The Next Web who has posted images of the single-column Timeline online. The major upgrades to the Facebook profile page include a shift of activities with friends and status updates to the the left side of the page. The right side of the profile page now shows recent images taken with Instagram or other activities.
Facebook recently bought the photo sharing social network Instagram and it was expected that the company would start integrating more deeply the two systems as time goes on. It is no surprise that Instagram is getting a share of the profile page and this should help increase the popularity of the site. Another interesting move from Facebook has been making one area for all photos, maps, friends, and likes on the top of the profile in a horizontal menu. Previously these items appeared separately on the right side of the page in a vertical setup.
Reports indicate that the new profiles are only live in New Zealand which usually where Facebook starts its updates. However, The Next Web also reports that Facebook has responded to the story by saying that they have “no other details to share right now” which could mean the update may not make it to other areas anytime soon. The current profiles may be a testing phase for ideas which may or may not make it the rest of the site.
