As the launch date of Research In Motion’s Blackberry 10 OS and its first two related devices approaches fast, all kinds of reports regarding the new platform are emerging. The latest update from the company’s Chief Marketing Officer Frank Boulben is that RIM is planning to introduce at least six new BB10 devices during the year and it begins with the launch of the Blackberry Z10, an all-touch smartphone and X10, a traditional QWERTY keyboard plus Touch phone on January 30, 2013.

The reports about six new BB10 devices first surfaced back in August of last year and now the CMO has finally confirmed the rumors. By bringing in six BB10 devices RIM is looking to cover all three entry levels in the cellphone market, as its new devices will hit high, middle and low end price points. In addition, observers are also assuming that of these six new BB10 devices, not only the high end, but even the low end devices could sport a full touch screen.

Apart from confirming the six new BB10 devices, Boulben also made it known that RIM does not have any exclusive deals for BB10 with telecom carriers in any market, which allows the Waterloo based company to target different segments of the market with its latest OS and devices. As Boulben said during an interview with FierceWireless at CES 2013, “We intend over time as we transition the portfolio to have a full range of devices”.

RIM has bet everything on its upcoming platform and devices in order to mount a comeback and the beleaguered Canadian company has left no stone unturned in order to make BB10 successful. According to Boulben RIM has not only targeted enterprise clients but has also given its BB10 smartphones to 150 carriers across the world for testing. He also said that RIM has a user base of 79 million and holds a good track record along with firm relationships with telecom carriers because of which, “They very much believe that we can be the third platform,” says Boulben.

Moreover, to knock its critics down RIM is also releasing 70,000 apps with the launch of BB10 OS and devices, says Boulben. Of these 70,000 apps 90 percent of them will be the top 600 applications on Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android platforms. Furthermore, RIM has also worked really hard to improve the security, instant messaging, typing and communication strength of its latest platform to cover up the shortcomings of previous phones.

Due to these reasons Boulben said, “We will be competitive”.
