As the online media takes over other traditional forms of media, the marketing and advertising industries have made the new media their priority to reach out to the broader audience. The new media has soon emerged as a lucrative tool to earn huge sum of advertising and marketing revenues and it is expected to see more growth in terms of spending in the years to come, according to the new estimates by eMarketer.

The data calculates the digital ad spending in the year 2012 to be over $100 billion, with North America contributing major share at 39 per cent. Not only that, the data has predicted positive trends for the market in the years to come.

Only in 2013, the digital ad spending is expected to beat the 2012 figures and reach somewhere around $118.4 billion. By 2016, eMarketer expects the digital ad spending to reach the figure of around a little over $163 billion.

The 2012 figures show that North American contributed major share in the spending, while Western Europe and countries from Asia Pacific and Latin American were behind. The 2016 forecast shows that North American will still have a major share in the digital ad spending, but it will lose its current share slightly, while Asia Pacific and other emerging markets will up their spending and increase their amount of share.

eMarketer has also predicted better trends for the Middle East and Africa region that contributes very low share in the digital ad spending at present; however, the region will still not be able to match North America, Western Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin American, and its future spending will be better only if compared to its current spending.
