The 2013 International CES in LasVegas has highlighted new technologies which mainly includes numerous upcoming devices. The most interesting part of the conference are prototypes which electronic manufacturers are still testing in their labs. One interesting technology was showcased by Microsoft during the Samsung CES keynote address. In this demonstration, the world’s largest software maker showed a video of a person playing games on Xbox in a room. The video goes on to show the TV screen display “Scanning Room” after which it appears that the room is filled with lights and images. The graphics of the games start to go beyond the limitations of the TV screen and onto the walls making the gamer feel as if he or she is in the gaming world.

This incredible technology by Microsoft is being called the IllumiRoom project and it portrays images on the wall of the room. IllumiRoom is basically a research project and it is expected that this technology is not going to hit the market soon.

As far as the implementation of this technology is concerned, Microsoft has used Kinect for a Windows camera along with a projector in its development that apparently “uses the appearance and the geometry of the room (captured by Kinect) to adapt the projected visuals in real-time without any need to custom pre-process the graphics.”

Though this demonstrative video looks amazing some felt that computer generated effects were used. However, Microsoft has assured that this was not a video trick and was a real video of a lab demo. Aside from this, the multinational corporation did not give out any further details about IllumiRoom project.
