Popular professional networking website, Linkedin, revealed on Wednesday, January 9 that it had reached 200 million members to date. This was a significant achievement by the social network that faced some serious challenge from big names  like Facebook who is currently ruling the social media sector with more than one billion users. Other competitors like popular micro-blogging website Twitter and Google’s very own social site, Google+, are following Mark Zuckerberg’s lead by maintaining a user base of 500 million members each.

In spite of sharing space with heavy weights, LinkedIn has been able to make its mark even though it took the social site more time to achieve the 200 million user base after its launch in 2003 than other competitors. Nevertheless, now LinkedIn is finally flying high, as the favourite platform for professionals has declared in the last earning report on November 1 that it has crossed the 187 million members milestone and it had been moving forward with a growth rate between 10 to 15 million users for each quarter in the previous year.

Today LinkedIn has 74 million users from USA, 18 million from India, 11 million from the UK, 11 million from Brazil and 7 million from Canada. As far as the countries in which this professional networking website is growing quite fast, Turkey tops the chart, while Columbia comes second and Indonesia sits in third place. To the extent LinkedIn’s mobile growth is concerned, China is leading the way in this category with Brazil, Portugal, India and Italy following it. And finally there are about two people joining LinkedIn with every passing second according to data provided by the site.
