Gaming aficionados have been waiting for the release of the next generation PlayStation 4 for a long time because its predecessor, the PlayStation 3, was launched by Sony in late 2006. During this period Sony has introduced updated versions of the PS3 by bringing in a few changes to the gaming console but their was never a complete overhaul an introduction of a brand new device. Hiroshi Sakamoto, vice president of home entertainment at Sony, recently dropped a major hint that PS lovers may hear the announcement of the next PlayStation in a few months time.

Sakamoto spilled the beans during an interview with Chilean Web site Emol by saying that he expected the PS4 to be ready for a formal introduction at the 2013’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) or sooner. When it was enquired from the vice president whether the next gen PS4 could be available to consumers in a couple of months time, his reply to the publication was:

“That’s still a big secret, but our friends are preparing Sony PlayStation. I can only say that we are focused on the E3 gaming event, scheduled for June. [An] announcement may be [made] in that minute or even earlier in May.”

This means that Sony’s PlayStation fans will have to wait for the big announcement at least until May. Plus, it is expected that even if Sony reveals PS4 in May or at E3 during June, people will not be able to get their hands on this gaming console until late in the year. The new device is rumoured to have a quad-core 2.9GHz processor, a 1GHz graphics card and 1GB memory.
