Leading Canadian telecom carrier, Rogers Communications, which earlier announced that they will offer Research In Motion’s upcoming Blackberry 10 smartphones to users, has now made it known that it has launched LTE roaming. With this launch Rogers has become the first carrier in North America and the very first in the world globe to offer LTE roaming at the international level to its customers.

The roaming facility will help Rogers boost its market share and profit because it will lure more customers especially Canadians who often travel abroad. The first country where LTE roaming from Rogers will be made available is Hong Kong and later this list will see some more countries add to it. The Canadian telecom carrier has promised to bring more countries into the LTE roaming list throughout the year.

The Senior Vice President of Products at Rogers, Raj Doshi, said during the announcement , “Rogers was the first carrier to launch an LTE network in Canada and today we are adding to our proud history of innovative firsts by being the first carrier in North America to launch LTE roaming. We know that Canadians travelling, for business or pleasure, want access to their device, email, documents, and the Internet. By offering LTE roaming, our customers can stay connected while travelling at the same blazing fast LTE speeds they experience in Canada on the Rogers wireless network.”

At this time, 60 percent of Canadians are taking advantage of Toronto based Rogers’ local LTE roaming service.
