Samsung and Apple are said to be leading the smartphone race while their competitors stayed behind them in the last quarter, according to a Reuters poll.
The quarterly reports of these companies are due within the next few days, so any official figure cannot be stated, but in the line of analysts’ prediction and the companies’ goals, it has been anticipated that these two companies are pulling ahead in the smartphone race globally.
According to Reuters, overall shipments of handsets increased in the last quarter while Samsung occupied most of the market share. As per some rough estimates, Samsung shipped a little over 60 million smart devices, showing a 71 per cent increase as compared to its shipments a year earlier.
Samsung’s profit for the quarter is expected to be over $8 billion, thanks to the Galaxy smartphone that helped the company capture the market significantly. As far as Apple is concerned, it reportedly shipped around 46 million iPhones in the quarter, increasing by 25 per cent as compared to its shipments a year earlier.
The concern, however, for the market is that these companies might not be able to maintain this momentum in the coming quarters, as the sales might have got boost during the last quarter owing to the holiday season.
Still, many analysts think that Samsung will beat Apple in the next quarters in terms of sales. That, however, cannot be said with absolute authority as Apple is gearing up for a few adventures. It is reportedly going to launch three iPhones in 2013; two of them in mid-year, while one in the holiday season before Christmas.
