The BlackBerry maker, Research In Motion, has just made it known that the company will air a commercial during the upcoming Super Bowl for the very first time in the company’s history. The advertisement from RIM will be aired during next months Super Bowl XLVII which is a popular sporting event int he U.S. and is known for exceptional ads. The mega event draws in users that are not usually American football fans because they wish to see the best TV advertisements.
To air an ad on Super Bowl is expensive and companies have to dig deep into their pockets. RIM will have to spend a good chunk of their capital to air their ad during Super Bowl. Rough estimates suggest that the Waterloo-based company will have to disburse up to $4 million for airing their 30 seconds advertisement.
However, the Canadian company will pay the cost quite gladly, as the timing of Super Bowl is absolutely ideal for the BlackBerry maker, as it is going to take place on February 3, a few days after the launch of latest BB10 devices and OS and hardly a day or two prior to the availability of the company’s smartphones in stores.
Research In Motion’s Chief Marketing Officer, Frank Boulben, describes this strategy as, “A Super Bowl commercial is a great opportunity to show the re-designed, re-engineered and re-invented BlackBerry to tens of millions of consumers on the largest advertising stage of the year. BlackBerry has 30 million social media fans, and we’re looking forward to continuing to encourage them and all NFL football fans to see the power of BlackBerry 10 for themselves.”
