One of the leading startup finance specialists in Canada, Mark MacLeod, has declared that he has now taken a post at FreshBooks, a cloud accounting firm that is located in Toronto. The exact words of his announcement were:
“I am pleased to announce that I am joining FreshBooks, a company that needs no introduction, especially to the Canadian startup community. I have been close to this company for a number of years and have watched it grow. It is a truly special company. And even though it’s been around for a while, it’s just getting started.”
In a post for his blog, Mark noted that “As I looked back and reflected on things over the end of year holidays, I found myself missing operating inside companies. I’ve been fortunate and privileged to be part of the Real team and to work with so many great entrepreneurs. But it was time for me to hunker down and focus on just one company as a full time team member.”
Before joining FreshBooks, Mark was working with Real Ventures as a partner from 2010 along with it his CFO position in Shopify and Tungle. In addition to this, he remained an advisor to numerous top SaaS startups as well because of which Mark is also known as the “Startup CFO”.
Mark also revealed that he will lead the corporate development and business functions at FreshBooks and at the same time he will also remain involved with Montreal-based Real Venture as a partner.
Prior to taking post in Real Venture, Mark had taken care of finances for several software startups that are backed by venture and angel investors. During his career Mark has successfully gained $66 million in terms of capital from backers not only in Canada, but in China, Europe and USA as well.
